Capcom reveals European and American Q1 09 release dates
PS3 News - Latest News

Capcom Europe has revealed its release dates and/or windows for all of its first quarter games today. You can see the info in handy list format below. Looks like Capcom is single handedly making Q1 2009 a real gaming event, with plenty to sink your teeth into, even despite inFamous and Killzone 2 being released during the same period.
  • Flock - February
  • Street Fighter IV - February 20th
  • Resident Evil 5 - March 13th
  • Bionic Commando - March (It's not March anymore. Rather, it'll be in the first half of '09)
The American release dates are as follows:
  • Flock - Early 2009
  • Street Fighter IV - February 17th
  • Resident Evil 5 - March 13th
  • Bionic Commando - Early 2009

Killzone 2 demo exclusive to GameStop, public demo after game release
PS3 News - Latest News

The only way you'll be able to play Killzone 2 before the game's release will be through GameStop's exclusive pre-order campaign. No other demo for Killzone 2 will be released before the game's street date. Those that don't want to pre-order from GameStop will have to wait until after the game's release, as we've discovered from SCEA. "The demo will be available on the PSN after the game ships but only through GameStop until then."

Seems a bit strange to reward people already ready to purchase the game with a demo, while excluding those that are on the fence. Having played the game, we can confidentally say that playing even just one level of Killzone 2 will make you a convert.

Rock Band DLC: Roy Orbison, Jethro Tull and more
PS3 News - Latest News

Due to Sony's holiday break last week, we didn't get any Rock Band DLC. As a result, everything has been pushed back a week. Hopefully Harmonix/Sony will adjust this soon -- we'd hate to think it will become standard practice for PS3 owners to get their DLC a week later than everyone else.
  • "Space Truckin'" -- Deep Purple
  • "Funk #49" -- James Gang
  • "Hymn 43" -- Jethro Tull
  • "Take Back the City" -- Snow Patrol
Roy Orbison Pack
  • "Claudette"
  • "In Dreams"
  • "Mean Woman Blues"
  • "Oh, Pretty Woman"
  • "Ooby Dooby"
  • "You Got It"
Each song will be priced individually at $1.99 while the Roy Orbison Pack will cost $9.99. Look for the Roy Orbison tracks next week on Thursday, January 15th while the other songs will debut this Thursday on January 8th.

PS3 games to look for in 2009
PS3 News - Latest News

2008 was "The Year of the PS3?" Pfft. Excuse me, but even PS3's fantastic 2008 library won't be able to compete with the likes of 2009. In one year, you'll see the likes of Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain. And there's tons of other exclusives, PlayStation Network titles, and third party titles that are bound for the system. (And to think, there are still games that haven't been revealed yet!)

The following list includes games that are currently scheduled for a 2009 release. However, as was the case in 2008, some of these games may stumble into delays. The list is broken up in order, with PS3 exclusives coming first. (And boy, are there a lot!)

More people web browse on PS3 than Wii
PS3 News - Latest News

In addition to PS3's recent and stunning victory over GameCube in terms of "video game console usage," the ebony mammoth also one-ups over Nintendo's current console, Wii. According to statistical data gathered by Market Share, the PS3's internal web browser accounts for 0.04 percent of all internet users while Wii (the only other current gen console to have a browser) only measures up to a 0.01 percent share.

The PS3's free browser is probably one factor which gives it an edge over the Wii's $5 Opera Internet Channel. Unfortunately, as the trifling amounts show, neither system seems to really dent PC's 88.7 percent dominance. We guess people enjoy their game blogs, lol kittehs and pRon the traditional way.

Sony denies reports regarding major division shut downs
PS3 News - Latest News

According to a story published by The Times, insider sources from Sony Corp. say the company is in for some "sacred cow-slaying" cost cuts. This alleged drastic restructuring goes so far as to suggest that there will be closures of company factories and that major divisions will be shut down. This news comes roughly a month after it was revealed that Sony had plans to cut 8,000 jobs from its non-SCEA workforce.

However, as MCV reports, Sony is already denying the supposed corporate restructuring. "We do not plan to announce additional restructuring measures at this time," said Sony spokesman Atsuo Omagari. "We don't have any such plan." Whether true or not, Sony's corporate outlook is rather dire; analysts are saying that a radical restructuring is long overdue. They suggest that Sony needs to focus on content and software, and to give Sir Howard Stringer complete control of the business.

"The most important thing is that, to improve organizational strength in the areas of development, purchasing and marketing, it will be necessary to further concentrate power in the hands of [Sir Howard] and unless this is achieved we believe [Sony] will be unable to close the gap with competitors such as Apple and Nintendo."
